How To Avoid Snacking Too Much
Knowing how to avoid snacking habitually is important. Snacks are always available, which is why many have such a habit. The Surgeon General reports that America is facing an obesity epidemic and snacking is a big part of the problem. It can be difficult to avoid snacking, but here are some ideas:
1) Keep exercising. The more you exercise, the less you will want to snack because you’ll start to like the way the new, fitter “you” looks and feels. Moreover, people that exercise are allowed to snack a bit more anyway, because they burn so many calories while exercising.
2) Fill the snack spot of your stomach with water. Every time the urge to snack arises, drink water instead, and you will feel full and less inclined toward drinking water. Alternatively, you could preempt the desire to snack by drinking water every couple hours. This will help keep you full and less interested in water throughout the day.
3) Complete your daily activities and tasks far away from snack food. For example, if snacking really bothers you, then instead of taking care of bills in the kitchen, you might consider going to the library.
4) Only purchase foods that require preparation. It’s easy to snack on chocolate, because you do not need to make it yourself! Buy foods that require more effort to make, and you will be less likely to snack.
5) At the supermarket, only buy the food that requires attention and preparation. Foods that require an extra step to prepare are harder to snack on. This means purchasing less chocolate and candy and more rice, because it is much more difficult to snack on rice.
6) Have smaller meals throughout the day, and make your snacks healthier. Nutritionists often suggest eating 4-6 meals each day in order to speed up your metabolism. So, instead of snacking, you will really be just having more meals. This is a significantly healthier alternative to giving up snacks altogether, and it is a much tastier one as well.
